About the Cherubim and Seraphim Church

The Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) church is a Christian denomination that originated in Nigeria, founded in 1925 by Moses Orimolade Tunolase.

Initially starting as a prayer group, it evolved into a significant religious movement. The C&S church is known for its unique blend of traditional Christian beliefs and African cultural practices.

The emphasis on spiritual healing, prophecy, and the power of prayer is central to its doctrine. Worship services are vibrant, featuring music, dance, and the use of symbolic items such as candles, incense, and holy water.

The church’s hierarchical structure includes leaders believed to possess spiritual gifts, such as prophecy and healing. High-ranking officials are often referred to by titles such as “Baba Aladura” (Father of Prayer) or “Mother Seraphim.” Services are marked by elaborate ceremonies, with members wearing white garments symbolizing purity. Both Yoruba and English are used in hymns and prayers, reflecting the church’s cultural roots.

Over the years, the C&S church has grown significantly, spreading beyond Nigeria to other parts of Africa, Europe, and North America. It has various branches and offshoots, including the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim and the Sacred Cherubim and Seraphim Church. The church is deeply involved in community service, offering educational, health, and social services to its members and the broader community. The Cherubim and Seraphim church represents a unique synthesis of Christianity and African spirituality, holding a significant place in the religious landscape of Nigeria and beyond.
